WASHINGTON - U.S. Navy is working to renew their fleets with laser guns.
In testing, a future laser weapon mounted on the cruiser successfully blasted a motor boat in the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
This trial is the first to be done in the middle of the sea and the use of weapons that became a milestone for the country's navy.
"We managed to create a devastating effect on a moving target at high speed," said Nevin Carr, Chief of Naval Research, as reported by FoxNews.
The test was conducted off the coast of California, using laser guns mounted on the deck of a ship naval defense test, the USS Paul Foster. Laser fired from a distance to a small motor boat and causing a fire which then flared. However, a number of details like certainty firing range, a secret.
"We fired the laser in a matter of miles, not just the yard," said Carr.
For information, the navy, the army and other armed forces have collaborated to create a laser weapon called "directed energy" in the form of a broad array of new weapons.
The weapons consisted of cannon mounted on the tank until the guns mounted on aircraft or unmanned balloons.
Tests are the first test fired a laser weapon at sea and the evidence that the laser gun is not just a dream.
"This is the first time a laser beam at a high power level mounted on warships, and use the power of the board to beat the target within a certain distance in the marine environment," said Peter Morrison, program officer for the Office of Naval Research.
"The navy is now moving rapidly towards directed energy," he said.
