Scientists Create Robot Insect Explorers Disaster Area

Gambar Ilustrasi. (Foto: lifeinthefastline.ca)LONDON - A Swiss robotics researchers have created a robot that can fly and perch on a wall or a tree.

According to researchers, the purpose of the robot is created to be able to travel over rough terrain like a disaster area.

Moreover, the robot is equipped with sensors and small cameras are different, they can be used in the affected areas to send important information back to the command center for the rescue of victims.

The ability of this insect-like robot, able to attach to almost any type of surface, even concrete walls.

"We are not blindly imitating nature, but using the same principle to the possibility of repairing the trouble," said Mirko Kovac, a scientist who makes a robot from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL).

"Behaviors such as jumping, flying and perched require complex control over movement without requiring high computational power," he added, as reported by TG Daily.

The ability to perch, able to save precious energy to allow the robot to rest, just like the insect or bird.

Mechanism perch before swooping require complicated maneuvers to reduce the momentum and landed on the foot.

Well, EPFL avoid this problem by using two spring-loaded arms fitted with pins that dig into the surface.
